About Lucy
Lucy is a registered member of both the BACP and the CDI, and serves on the BACP Expert Reference Group, contributing to the development of a competency framework for counselling adults affected by adoption.

As a counsellor and psychotherapist, my role isn’t about providing quick fixes or simply solving problems. Instead, I’m here to listen, offer unconditional support, and gently challenge you when needed. Together, we’ll focus on learning and practising coping mechanisms that help you move forward, building resilience and confidence as you navigate life’s challenges.

I specialise in guiding clients through positive change, supporting people with relationship issues, bereavement and grief, career transitions and retirement, ADHD, adult adoption experiences and living with illness. I also work with stress, anxiety, depression, and loneliness, whether these are long-standing or have intensified due to recent changes.

While friends and family can be a great source of comfort, there are times when you may feel stuck or overwhelmed. In those moments, I offer a fresh perspective to help you deepen your self-awareness, acceptance, and decision-making skills. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy—sometimes, simply having a space to express feelings of unease can be the first step towards change.

In our confidential sessions, we’ll look at your unique circumstances and emotions. Together, we’ll develop practical skills such as setting healthy boundaries, challenging unhelpful thoughts, implementing coping strategies, reducing anxiety, building resilience, and improving your self-confidence and well-being.

My experience includes private practice with a diverse range of clients, as well as volunteering with organisations such as Young Minds, Princes Trust, and The Mulberry Centre, supporting cancer patients, carers, families, and the bereaved.

You are the expert on your own life. My role is to walk alongside you, offering practical support and guidance as you navigate your unique path. Let’s work together to create positive change and help you build a life that feels authentic, fulfilling, and aligned with your values.

Stress, Anxiety & Depression
You might find yourself overwhelmed by stress, struggling with persistent worry or feeling a deep sense of sadness or hopelessness that can become isolating.
In our integrative counselling sessions, I provide a compassionate, non-judgmental space to explore these feelings.
Together, we'll work to identify triggers, challenge negative thought patterns and gently shift your focus to recognise what is going well at the same time as developing personalised coping strategies.
My goal is to help you build resilience and rebuild a sense of purpose in your life.

Bereavement, Grief & Loss
If you're struggling with grief after losing a loved one or someone with whom you had a complex relationship, you might feel overwhelmed, stuck, or feeling guilty about moving on. This can be an unbearably lonely time.
I offer a safe, compassionate space to explore your emotions, process your loss, and navigate grief's challenging stages.
Together, we'll develop healthy coping strategies, find meaning, and help you move forward while honouring your loved one's memory.
3.
Friends & Family Relationships
Relationships with friends, family, romantic partners, and colleagues can be intricate and emotionally charged. You might find yourself struggling to set clear boundaries, communicate authentically, or feel genuinely heard.
Our therapeutic journey will delve into these complex dynamics, uncovering underlying patterns and developing more constructive coping strategies.
We'll focus on empowering you to establish healthier boundaries, enhance communication skills, and cultivate deeper, more meaningful connections across all areas of your personal and professional life.
4.
Retirement
As retirement looms closer, it also marks a significant milestone in life, signalling the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.
While on the one hand it brings the promise of leisure, freedom and relaxation, the emotional effects of retirement can be complex and varied including grief, loss of identity and financial concerns to name a few.
We can explore what is going on for you, enable you to process how to address these issues and examine any self-limiting beliefs that may be holding you back. This will move you forward into a new era of self-discovery and reflection.
5.
Adult Adoptees
I have a special interest in working with adults affected by adoption.
I understand that adoption can bring up complex emotions and unique challenges, including issues such as identity, feelings of rejection, loss, and belonging as well as supporting reunion and post reunion adjustments.
We can reflect on your adoption journey and find meaning in your experiences.
This can lead to greater self-awareness and resilience, helping you achieve a more fulfilling and balanced life.

Benefits of Remote Counselling
Accessibility for All
Remote counselling breaks down geographical barriers, allowing you to access professional support from anywhere with an internet connection. This is particularly beneficial for:
-
People living in rural or remote areas
-
Those with limited access to transportation
-
Individuals with physical disabilities or chronic illnesses
-
People with demanding schedules or irregular work hours
Convenience and Flexibility
The convenience of remote sessions can't be overstated:
-
No need to travel, saving time and reducing stress
-
Easier to fit therapy into busy lifestyles
-
Ability to schedule sessions outside traditional office hours
-
Option to choose a comfortable, familiar environment for your sessions
Enhanced Privacy and Comfort
For many, the idea of attending therapy in person can be daunting. Remote counselling offers:
-
A sense of anonymity that can help you feel more at ease
-
The comfort of your own safe space, which may encourage more open and honest communication
-
Reduced anxiety about being seen entering a therapist's office
Continuity of Care
Life can be unpredictable, but remote counselling ensures that your therapeutic journey can continue uninterrupted:
-
Ideal for those with chronic illnesses or mobility issues
-
Beneficial for carers who may struggle to leave home regularly
-
Allows for consistent support during travel or relocation
-
Ensures therapy can continue during unexpected events (e.g., pandemics, severe weather)
Inclusivity and Accessibility
Remote counselling can be particularly beneficial for:
-
Neurodivergent individuals who may find traditional office settings overwhelming
-
People with social anxiety who might struggle with face-to-face interactions
Environmental Benefits
By eliminating the need for travel, remote counselling:
-
Reduces carbon emissions
-
Contributes to a more sustainable approach to mental health care
Remote counselling offers a flexible, accessible, and inclusive approach to mental health support. While it may not be suitable for everyone, it provides a valuable alternative that can make therapy more accessible and comfortable for many individuals. If you're considering counselling, exploring the remote option could be a great way to start your journey towards better mental health and well-being.
